Cleveland State Men’s Soccer tied against Phoenix’s Green Bay with a score of 1-1 at Krenzler Field with nearly three minutes left in the game.

The game kicked off at 7 p.m. with about 120 people in attendance for the third Horizon League match of the season. The two teams came face-to-face again after tying last year in a 1-1 draw that allowed for CSU to claim their regular-season title.

The Vikings had a slow start in the first 20 minutes, but quickly picked up the pace with six shots and one save. CSU goalkeeper Omeed Naeemy managed to keep Green Bay off the scoreboard, with the first half closing at 0-0.

Within the first nine minutes of the second half, however, Green Bay’s Chris Album dribbled in from left to score with an assist from his teammate, So Nishikawa, giving Phoenix a lead of 1-0. As the minutes dwindled down, CSU persisted on.

At the 87th minute of the game, Viking’s Pablo Kawechi, assisted by Albert Portas, scored the decisive goal to tie the match at 1-1.

The Vikings now have an overall of 1-5-2 and a conference record of 0-2-1.

CSU will travel down to Dayton to take on the Flyers Tuesday, Sept. 26th for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
