Meet The Cauldron 2023-24 staff.

Managerial Team

Editor-in-Chief: Mays Turabi

Mays is a sophomore double-majoring in Political Science and Spanish on a pre-law track. She began as a journalist working on the Editorial team for The Cauldron last spring. A proud Palestinian-American and trilingual, Mays’ passion for language continues to shape her experience in academia, as well as her personal identity. Alongside The Cauldron, she finds joy in writing and even runs her own freelance newsletter called “i want to throw myself away.” As The Cauldron’s Editor-in-Chief, Mays seeks to reinvigorate the publication’s print, all while further expanding its multimedia presence across diverse fronts.

Managing Editor: Kirsten Beard

Kirsten is a senior double-majoring in Journalism and Promotional Communication, and minoring in Digital Content Production. She has worked as a Media Content Intern for the non-profit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland this past summer and as Community Editor of the Cleveland Stater newspaper last spring. Having a passion for writing and creating content, Kirsten strives to work with digital media and journalism in her future. In her spare time, she’s either reading, exploring new music, working out, or arguing with her cat, Sylvester. As Managing Editor, she is enthusiastic about enhancing our approach to news presentation, while also expanding our outreach.

Editorial Team

News Editor: Diana Schoder

Diana is a third-year honors student majoring in English on the teaching track. Outside of The Cauldron, Diana serves as president of Viking Catholic and enjoys learning about and growing in her faith. Having previously written for her hometown newspaper, Diana began as a Multimedia Journalist at The Cauldron in Fall 2022 and worked as Co-News Editor in Spring 2023. She is excited to provide timely news coverage relevant to the CSU community.

Features Editor: Julia Srnec

Julia is a first-year student double-majoring in Linguistics and International Relations with minors in Spanish and Middle Eastern Studies. She grew up in Minnesota and has loved getting to explore Cleveland alongside her studies. Outside of The Cauldron, Julia enjoys music, travel, fashion, and devoting time to maintaining her Duolingo streak. She looks forward to developing connections with CSU’s student community through her role as Features Editor and hopes to share meaningful stories with her audience.  

Arts & Entertainment Editor: Kasey Sheridan

Kasey is a senior double-majoring in Journalism (honors) and Theatre with a minor in Digital Content Production. She’s from Youngstown, Ohio, and if she’s not on a stage, she’s in the audience enjoying the show. She’s a member of CSU’s Delta Zeta Pi Phi sorority, for which she previously served as Academics Chair and Vice President of Programs. Aside from the arts Kasey enjoys spending time with her cat, Molly, playing video games, and reading. As Arts & Entertainment Editor, Kasey aims to use her voice to uplift local artists and introduce students to CSU’s incredible arts scene.

Multimedia Feature Journalist: Hannah Gates

Hannah is double-majoring in Communications and Political Science with a pre-law focus. She has a passion for nailing down the facts and reaching people from all different walks of life. When Hannah isn’t working towards furthering her education or writing for The Cauldron, she is advocating for homeless youth across Cleveland, with a deep desire to make sure that those who don’t have the same opportunities as others aren’t forgotten. She is a second-year writer for The Cauldron and has previously written for Hannibal LaGrange University’s magazine and newspaper, The Vanguard.

Multimedia Feature Journalist: Anastasia Hunt

Anastasia is a third-year student majoring in Accounting. She was born in Russia and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland. Alongside The Cauldron, Anastasia is very involved on campus, from Student Government Association to TRIO/Student Support Services as a peer mentor, just to name a few. In her free time, she volunteers at the Cleveland APL as a Cat Adoption Specialist. Other than writing, she enjoys fashion, politics, and quality time with her friends and family. As a feature journalist, Anastasia looks forward to informing the CSU community about what their university and city is up to.

Multimedia Arts & Entertainment Journalist: Ava Fuduric

Ava is a second-year student majoring in Journalism and Promotional Communication, and double minoring in Digital Content Production and International Politics. She serves as secretary for the CSU chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and plans to explore all sorts of career fields through her networking experiences. Outside of The Cauldron, Ava enjoys music, worship, staying active, and riding horses. As an arts & entertainment journalist, Ava hopes to provide honest and exciting news on the arts at CSU.

Multimedia Sports Journalist: Kayleigh Connors

Kayleigh is a first-year student double-majoring in Philosophy and English Education. She is a proud alumna of Elyria Catholic, where she first found her love for writing. With fondness of teaching and a value for education, Kayleigh plans on professing at the college level in hopes of cultivating thoughtful people of action through meaningful works. Outside of The Cauldron, she works at Second Sole, where she shares her love of running with her community. Besides writing, she enjoys Cleveland sports, live music, and sunsets at Lakewood Park. As a multimedia sports journalist, Kayleigh looks forward to highlighting CSU athletics.

Matt returns to The Cauldron staff for a third year photographing CSU sports and on-campus events. He particularly enjoys photographing basketball and swimming. Set to graduate in spring 2024, Matt is an engineering major.
