Cleveland State University and women’s basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier agreed to a contract extension Wednesday, March 29 that runs until April 2028.
Kielsmeier’s base salary will go from $175,000 to $190,000 with his new contract. The maximum total of bonuses he can make off the team’s performances will increase from $50,000 to $100,000.
Program bonus opportunities will increase from $5,000 to $12,500 in his new contract. Academic bonuses will also increase, and there will be no cap.
Each five full-time positions will receive a $2,500 pay increase to their salary.
His buyout will remain the same as his previous contract, as follows:
- On or before April 30, 2023 – $150,000
- May 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024 – $75,000
- July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025 – $50,000
- On or after July 1, 2025 – $0
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue to lead this program, and I am grateful for the support and belief that President Laura Bloomberg and Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Garrett continue to have in me and our staff,” Kielsmeier said in a statement. “Being able to work with an incredible staff and talented student-athletes day-in and day-out has been an amazing journey. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Viking basketball.”
