The Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) student organization and Palestinian advocacy group Al-Awda held a protest in Public Square on Feb. 3. The protest was in response to an Israeli raid on a refugee camp in Jenin in the Occupied West Bank in Palestine. During the raid, Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians and wounded 20 others.
“We’re here to stand in solidarity with everyone that died,” said Haneen Hamideh, President of SPHR. “And we’re here also with the motive of trying to get the U.S. to stop sending their tax dollars to Israel.”
Forty-three Palestinians, including eight children, have been killed by Israeli forces so far this year. The high number of casualties has put 2023 on track to be the deadliest year for Palestinians since 2005. The spike in violence follows the swearing-in of what has been named the most far-right Israeli government in history.
