Cleveland State University provides students with many unique opportunities that are specific to its location. One perk of going to school in downtown Cleveland is the close proximity to Playhouse Square. This allows for easy access and discounted tickets to world renowned musicals. Any CSU student can take advantage of tickets that are priced as low as $15 for mainstage productions.
Here are five mainstage productions that will be kickstarting the holiday season and the 2023 Spring semester.

A Christmas Carol – November 25 to December 23
“A Christmas Carol” is the perfect way to begin the festivities this winter season. This lighthearted, family-friendly show focuses on its main character, Ebenezer Scrooge. He is a man who despises Christmas until he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. This unpleasant man earns his redemption throughout the show while he learns to enjoy Christmas.
Hamilton – December 6 to January 15
Get ready for a mix of hip hop, R&B, and Broadway with the KeyBank State Theatre’s Tony Award winning performance of “Hamilton.” This show is the history lesson you do not want to miss. This story about founding father Alexander Hamilton, with music and lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, will have you completely reimagining what the creation of America’s government looked like.
Beetlejuice – January 10 to January 29
“Beetlejuice” is a show about teenager Lydia Deetz who meets ghost couple Adam and Barbara in her new home. To scare the Deetz family away, Adam and Barbara hire bio-exorcist Beetlejuice. This story takes all sorts of hilarious twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A story about family and love, Beetlejuice will continue to be an all time favorite for many.
Hadestown – January 31 to February 19
“Hadestown,” a 9 time Tony Award and 1 time Grammy Award winning show, arrives at Cleveland’s Connor Palace. This musical focuses on 2 Greek mythological couples, Hades and Persephone, and Orpheus and Eurydice. When Eurydice dies, she goes to the underworld, known as Hadestown. Orpheus strives to save her, but must get through Hades first. This tragic love story will keep you wanting more.
Flanagan’s Wake – January 6 to April 29
Visit the Kennedy’s Cabaret at Playhouse Square for one of the longest running shows Cleveland has to offer. “Flanagan’s Wake” takes place in the fictional Graplin, County Sligo, Ireland. This improv comedy show allows the audience to interact with and dictate the storyline. Tales will be told, songs will be sung, and the audience will be one with the village.
