Musicians Compete in Battle of the Land

The 2-Day Music Competition Comes to Tower City October 1 & 2

Battle of the Land, Nov.

Battle Of The Land, a 2-day music competition with live voting, will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2 at Tower City Center, 230 W. Huron Street, Cleveland. 

This free event will have 15 Cleveland musicians compete for a grand prize of $5,000, a music video by award-winning producer Logan Kyngston, 10 hours of studio time in the Lava Room recording studio, a radio interview with The Insomniac at iHeartRadio’s studio in downtown Cleveland and the satisfaction of being considered Cleveland’s best up-and-coming musician.

Musicians 18 years and older were asked to submit one original song for the public to vote on, and 15 semi-finalists were chosen to perform.

Semi-finalists performing this weekend include:

Day one performers: 

Blayzee 

Blayzee is a hip-hop artist who has loved music since the 9-years-old and works to spread awareness aboutsuicide.

Corry Michaels

As a singer-songwriter, Michaels blends pop, dance, and soul for a refreshing sound. 

Jinari Kemet

Kemet creates hip-hop and rap music. His musical influences include Ice Cube, Joyner Lucas, Saba, and Redman. 

JRG The Prodigy 

JRG The Prodigy is a rapper and entertainer who recently founded Foreign Label Records. 

Little G Fresh 

Little G Fresh is a recording artist, music producer, songwriter and audio engineer who stars in Cartoon Rap Attack, a Youtube series. 

Murr

Murr is a multi-genre artist with a fun, funky vibe. 

The Last Witch 

The Last Witch is a psychedelic metal band composed of members Chris Hottle, Owen Quinn, and Brandon Lewis. 

Day two performers: 

Bassah

Bassah is a singer-songwriter with a pop sound. 

Crazy8theGreat

Born Miguel Mercado, Crazy8thegreat has been writing and rapping since 2003. 

Marcus Smith

According to his website, Smith is a rapper, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and grammar snob who began writing poetry in middle school. 

Night at Delaney’s 

Night at Delaney’s is a pop-punk band made up of five individuals: Eli Hadden, Josh Hadden, Noah Hadden, Scott Hunt, and Jesse Nadinic.

Phyll Thomas

Thomas is a writer and hip-hop artist who has been releasing music since 2017.

The Fiddle Revolt

The Fiddle Revolt is an Akron-based alternative rock band made up of Alex Beck, Anthony “Twan” Haddad, Ian Harlow, Stephen Mason, and Nigel Pinnell, who aim to give their music a dynamic sound. 

Vince Nerone and the Band

Singer, songwriter, and frontman Vince Nerone will perform beside Yacobucci, Visual 9 & Chanelle Kazadi, Jalen Hooks, and Pharro, who make up the band. Together they have a pop-punk rock and emo-rap, and hip-hop sound. 

Zach Schill 

Schill is an independent singer and songwriter who started writing songs in 2020. 

The French Leonards were also slated to perform in this year’s Battle of the Land. The group, a recently reunited band from the 1980s and 90s, is made up of four men: Jerry Gavlak, Tom Jares, Michael Scherma, and Rick Wager. Sadly, the band had to pull out of Battle of the Land due to an illness. 

This is the second year Battle of the Land will take place. Last year, more than 300 bands and artists competed. The winner took home a cash prize and the rights to open for rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony ahead of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
