The Cleveland State esports program played a bevy of matches across several different video games last week at their home facility, the Cavs Legion Lair, to start their inaugural season.

Cleveland State’s Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros teams played their first week of matches to varying degrees of success.

On Monday, the Valorant team won their match against Missouri 13-10.

On Wednesday, the League of Legends (green team) lost to Illinois Wesleyan 1-0 and lost to Toronto Mississauga 1-0. Also happening on Wednesday, the League of Legends (white team) took a win against Red Bird Academy 1-0

On Thursday, the Overwatch team played Montgomery County Community College in a match that went the distance, finishing with a loss for the Vikes 3-2. The Overwatch team provided what was the closest of any match last week, taking Montgomery to a third and final map in the 5th game, with the difference being just one team fight.

The Rocket League and Super Smash Brothers teams closed the week on Friday. Rocket League lost matches to Johnson & Wales and the Rio Grande 3-0, while Smash Bros. finished their match with a tie 0-0.

There was a lot to be happy about for the Vike’s first week of competition, but winning results were few and far between. Every week each team will have matches on the same days they played last week. All of last week’s action and every match in the future can be caught on CSU esports twitch page @ csuvikes_gg
