Cleveland State University’s Center for Sales Excellence is named after Republican Bernie Moreno. Moreno has echoed former President Donald Trump’s election lies as he ran for the Republican nomination for Ohio’s senate seat.

“The media and Democrats smearing President Trump an entire system rigged against the people,” Moreno said in a campaign advertisement. “President Trump says the election was stolen, and he’s right.”

According to Politico, Moreno ended up dropping out of the election after a private meeting with Trump, where both agreed there were too many MAGA candidates and that his staying could hurt the MAGA movement’s chances.

“{Moreno} has done much for Ohio and loves his State and our great MAGA Movement,” Trump released a statement after Moreno dropped out. “His decision will help ensure the MAGA Ticket wins BIG, as it is all over the Country. Thank you, Bernie, for your support and keep fighting!”

Moreno has since endorsed J.D. Vance, who won the Republican nomination to Ohio’s senate seat. Vance has been supported by Trump and has pushed the MAGA agenda.

When asked if Cleveland State should be associated with Moreno, Bloomberg referred to the process for voice and agency.

“My job in those situations is not to force my own opinion,” Bloomberg said. “My job here is to steward the institution, and I will steward the institution with the structures that guide us.”

Cleveland State has faced controversy over the name of its law college being tied to a slave owner and the decision to bring Chick-Fil-A to campus, as the company has donated millions to anti-LGBTQ rights organizations.

“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards,” President Joe Biden said in a speech on Sept. 1st. “Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
