Cleveland State men’s golf tied for 11th at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational

Cleveland State University men’s golf team kicked off the season at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. The Green and White would finish the invitational tied for 11th with Purdue Fort Wayne in the 15-team standings.

In the first round, Cleveland State shot 300 as a team, with senior David Laib leading the way hitting 73. Seniors Jonny Filler, Gunnar McCollins, and Jack Hanus would hit 76, 77, and 74. Junior Mason Frazier tallied 79 in the first round.

The second round was the best for the Green and White shooting 295 as a team. Laib once again leads the way, having his best round shooting 69. Filler, McCollins, Hanus, and Frazier would follow with 76, 75, 78, and 75.

In the final round, Cleveland State would shoot 29, and Filler would have his best round hitting 73. Laib, McCollins, Hanus, and Frazier shot 76, 64, 76, and 75 in the final round. 

Laib would finish with a total of 218, placing him tied for 15th in the individual standings in the invitational.

Filler (225) and McCollins (226) would tie them for 52nd and 55th. At the same time, Hanus (228) and Frazier (229) placed tied for 60th and 64th.

The Green and White will play the Joe Feaganes Invitational at Huntington, West Virginia, on Sept. 12-13th.
