The first few weeks of school
Summer 2022 has unfortunately come to an end and the Fall 2022 semester is off! Many of us, namely freshmen, may have lots of questions with not a lot of answers (I know I do!). This article seeks to answer some basic questions for this coming semester: Where do I find parking? Parking passes are sold out, what do I do? Where is my classroom? Where can I go for tutoring? Do I still need to wear a mask?
Where do I find parking?
Parking passes for the Fall 2022 semester went on sale August 1, 2022 at 9am. Cleveland State University offers various different parking permits. After purchasing a parking pass, students can find real-time parking availability using http://parkingspaces.csuohio.edu/ (don’t waste your time and gas driving around, this tool is a total life saver!)
If you don’t know where the garages you can park at are located Cleveland State provides a visual map. All you will need to do is scan your Cleveland State ID to enter (and exit) the garage.
Currently, the following permits are sold out*:
Commuter GREEN Student Permits (Fall Semester)
Overnight Privileges on GREEN & WHITE Commuter Student Permits (Fall Semester)
Prospect Garage Resident Permits (Fall Semester)
Green Zone Resident Permits (Fall Semester)
Additionally, if you feel unsafe walking to your car alone, Cleveland State provides a 24/7, 365 safety escort service. You can use this service by downloading the Rave Guardian safety app or by calling (216) 687-2020.
The parking permit I wanted is sold out, what do I do?
This can be a total bummer, but do not stress! There are plenty of parking options around Cleveland State University, though you may end up spending a little bit more money in the long run – depending on how often you’re on campus. (This could also save you money if you’re not on campus often but I will let you do the math on your own).
Additionally, on occasion, more parking permits will become available so be sure to keep an eye out if you missed the opportunity to purchase one of the above passes.
Throughout the semester, Cleveland State offers daily parking passes for Lot 43 and Lot 71. These can be purchased by logging into the parking portal. These passes can also sell out fast so be sure to plan ahead! Lot 43 is located further away from campus but will cost you only $3 per day, Lot 71 is located conveniently right off of 90 East and West on Prospect Ave and will cost you $6 per day.
If you’ve missed the opportunity to both purchase semester passes and daily passes, don’t worry, there is still hope! (Though you may want to work on your time management skills a bit (haha))
Around the Cleveland State campus, you will find meters located EVERYWHERE. Pick your favorite spot and keep those quarters handy!
You’ve read this far, so I’ll let you in on a little secret… shhh.
Right off of 90 East and West on Prospect Ave, there is a parking lot that is not affiliated with Cleveland State that costs $5 a day, it’s called The Domain. There is no planning ahead involved! Simply purchase a parking pass from the kiosk when you arrive and place it on your dash. However, if you come during the day there is often a time limit until 6pm and there are no in- and-out privileges. You can also purchase monthly passes for $90. If you use this option be sure to save me a spot!
Where is my classroom?
You will find the building and room number for your class on your CampusNet schedule, as shown in the picture below.
Most Liberal Arts classes will be in Berkman Hall (BH) which is located on Euclid and E 22nd st, next to the Student Center building. For additional locations, please see the map below.
Here is a list of what all the building abbreviations stand for and their addresses. And a visual map as well.
Where can I go for tutoring?
TASC (Tutoring and Academic Success Center) offers online and in-person tutoring support for various different classes. You can sign up for these services via Starfish- by logging into your CampusNet account and selecting the student tab.
Additionally, you have the option of stopping by the TASC office located at Berkman Hall (BH) 233, emailing the office at Tutoring@csuohio.edu, and/or giving them a call at 216-687-2012 between the hours of 9:00am- 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
For more information on TASC and its services click here
Cleveland State also offers writing services and workshops and various different organizations that may help you stay focused on a specific area of study.
Do I still need to wear a mask?
As of August 9th, 2022 masks are optional anywhere on campus, but this is always subject to change. To keep up-to-date on Cleveland State’s mask policy, check your student email and look out for emails coming directly from Cleveland State University (emails that have to do with the mask policy should contain the word “mask” in the subject line).
Vaccinations and boosters offer the best protection against COVID-19, and the CDC recommends 5 days of quarantine if you test positive or are exposed to COVID-19.
Free masks are available at the information desk at the Student Center and the Health and Wellness Services on campus offers vaccines by appointment to any student, faculty, or staff member of Cleveland State University.
