The struggles continue for Vikings lacrosse despite a dominant Senior Day win

Lacrosse is underway and the Cleveland State University Vikings are deep into the season. The month of February was not so good for the Vikings. The team played three games and suffered three losses. The slump started against Ohio State with a 17-9 loss, the Vikings then lost the home opener in an 11-9 defeat against Mercer, and ending the month of February the Vikings lost to the #17 ranked Michigan Wolverines 13-5.

Moving on to the month of March, which was a much better month for the team. The Vikings started the month off with a win against Canisius by a final of 12-10. Next up the Vikings had consecutive games against St. Bonaventure lost both games by finals of 12-5 and 11-10. After suffering back-to-back losses, the Vikings would win against Hampton by a final of 19-6 followed by a Senior Day matchup against VMI. The team would explode for 22 goals. The Vikings put up four goals in the first, six in the second, eight in the third, and fourth in the fourth. The day was headlined by redshirt junior Ryan Haigh, who scored 6 goals.

The team would end the month of March 3-3 and go into April with conference play kicking off. Unfortunately, the month has not gotten off to a good start as the team has dropped both games against Bellarmine and Utah by scores of 15-11. The match against Bellarmine was closely contested and after the third quarter had a score of 11-10 Bellarmine. The Vikings couldn’t complete a comeback as the team was outscored 4-1 in the last quarter and lost 15-11.

The Vikings then hosted Utah and seemed to have the games under control having a 6-2 lead after the first quarter and 7-5 at the half. The second half was a different story as they outscored the Vikings 10-4 and lost the match 15-11. The team is now 3-7 and 0-2 in conference play.
