Women’s track and field prepares for the Horizon League Indoor Championship

With two meets in February the Cleveland State track and field team gets ready to win it all

The Cleveland State University Women’s track & field team competed at two events in the month of February.

On Feb. 4, the Vikings traveled south to compete at the Akron Invitational. On the first day of the meet, junior Hannah Corte, freshman Ariana Coats, and junior Emily Nemeth competed for the Vikings in the 5000-meter run. Korte placed sixth with a time of 19:25.72, Coats placed seventh with a time of 19:47.47, and Nemeth placed eighth with a time of 20:35.50.

Sophomore Zoe Dellaserra also represented the Vikings at the meet on Feb. 4. Dellaserra finished 13th in the long jump event with a final score of 4.51.

Cleveland State participated in the second day of the Akron Invitational on Feb. 5. Dellaserra competed in the 60-meter dash prelims in which she finished 23rd. Junior Dynesty Ervin competed in a pair of individual events, placing second in the 400-meter dash and 12th in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Colette Conway also ran in the 200 and 400-meter dash events, placing 25th and 21st respectively.

Cleveland State was also represented by junior Margaret Smith, freshman Sara Timberlake, and sophomore Savannah Shaver in the 800-meter run. Smith placed eighth in the run with a time of 2:21.00, Timberlake finished 20th with a time of 2:33.84, and Shaver finished 22nd with a time of 2:35.83.

Ervin, Smith, Timberlake, and Shaver also competed in the 4×400 in which the Vikings finished sixth with a final time of 4:17.30.

To round out the competition, Cleveland State saw junior Allison Pankow, senior Brooke Armbruster, and freshman Anna Umlaf finish 17th, 18th, and 19th, in the shot-put event respectively.

The Vikings continued their competition on Feb. 12 at the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State University.

Erving and Conway again ran the 200-meter dash for the Vikings. Erving finished 24th with a time of 26.08 and Conway finished 75th with a time of 30.82.

Erving also represented the Vikings in the 60-meter dash prelims in which she placed 20th with a time of 8.02.

Coats, Korte, and Nemeth ran for Cleveland State in the mile run event. Coats placed 28th with a time of 5:38.36, Korte finished 34th with a time of 5:49.70, and Nemeth finished 37th with a time of 5:51.53.

Smith and Shaver competed in the 800-meter dash. Smith finished 17th with a time of 2:23.69 and Shaver finished 44th with a final time of 2:36.40.

Cleveland State was once again represented in the shot-put event by Umlaf and Armbruster. Umlauf finished in 46th while Armbruster finished in 47th.

The Vikings will continue to prepare for the Horizon League Indoor Championships which are set to take place on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 in Youngstown, Ohio.
