Classics to watch when you’re sick of Christmas movies

The holidays are often filled with cheer, home-cooked meals, and family feuds. While Aunt Brenda is arguing politics, and your parents are debating whether to have stuffing or mashed potatoes at Christmas dinner (why not both?), here is one aspect of the holidays you don’t have to argue about. After you have watched every holiday movie imaginable, here is a list of binge-worthy classics that are sure to entertain all audiences without dispute. 

  1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 

Despite coming out in just 2018, “Spider-Verse” has already cemented itself as a classic, introducing the popular Miles Morales onto the big screen for the first time. The animated movie is not just for kids, but for adults and comic book lovers alike, which makes it perfect for a family gathering. Available on Netflix. 

  1. Chef

Painfully underrated, “Chef” stars- and is directed by- Jon Favreau, whose character quits his job as a chef at a high-end restaurant in order to operate a food truck with the help of his young son. The theme of family is reinforced over the teaching of how to make the perfect Cubano sandwich. Don’t watch it if you’re hungry though, as it has some of the most mouthwatering cooking scenes you’ll ever see on the big screen. Available on Netflix. 

  1. Warrior

The 2011 UFC movie, starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton, somehow lost money at the box office, despite turning a story about fighters into a dramatic tear-jerker, not to mention some of the most bone-crunching fight scenes you’ll see that doesn’t involve CGI. The plot revolves around an estranged father and his two sons, both of whom enter a prestigious competition with a $5 million prize to the winner. It packs a punch in more ways than one. Available on Amazon Prime TV. 

  1. Big Daddy

“Hip? Hip hop? Hip hop anonymous?” Sometimes when you’re with family, there’s nothing better than watching a dumb Adam Sandler film and putting it in the background while you’re playing cards or unwrapping gifts. You can glance up at the TV and have a hearty laugh without having to follow any of the plot. Available on Netflix. 

  1. Jurassic Park

The holidays are a time of nostalgia, and what can be more nostalgic than Jeff Goldblum and giant dinosaurs sharing the screen? It wasn’t just a film when it came out in 1993; it was an event that became a cultural phenomenon (and a multi-billion dollar franchise now starring Chris Pratt). 1993 classic available on Disney+.
