Satire: New to Viking Outfitters, the CSU Tarot Deck

By: Connor Mahon

Over the weekend, frequent shoppers may have noticed a new and unconventional item added to Viking Outfitters offerings. Tarot, a method of divination dating back to 1783, now has a Cleveland State University twist, with many campus staples represented on the major arcana cards. Featured on the cover of the deck is Magnus standing in for The Magician. The deck also features Rhodes Tower as the unlucky Tower card, which represents misery, adversity, calamity, ruin, and specifically, unforeseen catastrophe.

(*Satire: “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues,” Oxford dictionary states. In this case a play on Tarot Cards)
