Kicking off the start of the school year, Cleveland State University welcomed a new class of freshman students to a brand new year with Magnus Fest. The Magnus Fest Tradition kicked off with a welcome speech from President Harlan Sands, multiple speakers, and various icebreakers. New students could then set out to enjoy free food and the organization fair.
After starting off the Week of Welcome strong, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) put on a number of fun and relaxing activities. Erin Mahoney — CAB Pride and Spirit Chair, helped ‘kick it off’ with a competitive start by hosting Field Day that included carnival games and challenging activities like tug-of-war and an obstacle course.
Continuing on through Week of Welcome, Lindsay Shahan — CAB Campus Traditions Chair, created Welcome Back CSU where students got to enjoy summer snacks like pretzels, popcorn and popsicles. In addition, there was a photobooth, rock wall and a Bungee Grab N’Go for students all around campus to enjoy.
Celebrating the week with a more relaxing tone, Tyler Hobel — CAB Special Events Chair, put together a few hours of relaxation and yoga. Relax, Replenish, Revive: Yoga Trilogy was day one of three that CAB will invite local instructors to perform different types of Yoga; students could attend regardless of level of experience.
Ending Week of Welcome in a more athletic way, Kayla Ball — CAB After Dark Chair, worked with Cleveland State’s Recreation center in putting on Rock the Block. An event which showcased club sports like softball; frisbee, and rowing; and activities such as live music; a zip line; photo booth; cornhole; giant jenga; and giant connect four.
The week was full of fun and games; there were other events that happened throughout the week. Students were able to experience Bingo for books: where students had a chance to win gift cards to Viking Outfitters; The Welcome Back Block Party: put on by Trinity Cathedral consisting of food and tours of the Church; and lastly, the student organization fair: where campus organizations got to promote and recruit for their organization.
Throughout the past week, Cleveland State University and the Campus Activities Board brought students and organizations a thrilling and positive week of WOW.
